"I went to see the Beatles on 31st May 1963 at the Odeon Southend-on-Sea. It was the first time I had been to a concert by myself. I paid 7/6 for a seat at the first performance in the back stalls. Also on that show were Gerry and the Pacemakers and Roy Orbison. I didn't hear a thing..... it was so noisy. Afterwards I went down the side of the Odeon and saw John leaning out of the window waving. I was a bit late home and my parents were not too pleased with me.
