10 January 1963
Transglobal Music Co., acting on behalf of EMI, signs a licensing agreement giving Vee-Jay Records the rights to release "Please Please Me" and "Ask Me Why" in the US market. Both titles had been rejected by Dave Dexter of Capitol Records.
Concert:
Grafton Ballroom, West Derby Road, Liverpool
This concert is covered by Vincent Mulchrone of the Daily Mail and Maureen Cleave of the Evening Standard.
Cleave writes: "John Lennon has an upper lip which is brutal in a devastating way. George Harrison is handsome, whimsical and untidy. Paul McCartney has a round baby face while Ringo Starr is ugly but cute. Their physical appearance inspires frenzy. They look beat-up and depraved in the nicest possible way."
"This well-worn ticket for a gig at Liverpool's Grafton Ballroom is signed on the reverse "The Beatles...Paul McCartney" in blue ballpoint! Chances are it was folded in a fan's wallet or purse for years as a keepsake. Comes with LOA from the world's leading Beatles autograph authority, Frank Caiazzo. 4 ½"x3""
